Piedmont Heart Patient Warns Others of Signs of Heart Attack

Feb 24, 2025

Just days before Christmas in 2024, Stephen says he thought he was experiencing lingering symptoms from a case of the flu. When his back pain and indigestion continued, he decided to go to the emergency room at Piedmont Medical Center Fort Mill.

When the team checked him out, it was clear he was having a heart attack. Stephen says the team swiftly prepared him to be transported by Piedmont EMS to our heart center in Rock Hill.

Stephen had complete blockage of the left anterior descending artery and was quickly taken back for an emergent procedure. A stent was placed to remove the blockage, allowing blood flow to Stephen’s heart.

Stephen’s family says they heard him laughing not too long after the procedure and knew their loved one was okay. Relief, an understatement, knowing they have their husband, father, and grandfather back with them.

Stephen says thanks to the quick actions of all team members throughout the Piedmont market, he is here today.

His message to others, DO NOT HESITATE!! Every second counts. Seek help if you feel something isn’t right.

Now Stephen has lost 30 pounds, exercises on the bike in the photo, and maintains a healthy diet. Most of all, he is grateful for life and his family.

Stephen, we are honored you trusted us with your heart.

WCCB Charlotte interviewed Stephen and Dr. Jonathan Elias, Cardiologist at Piedmont Medical Center. Check out the story here: https://www.wccbcharlotte.com/2025/02/19/tega-cay-man-warns-others-to-trust-their-body-after-he-nearly-missed-symptoms-of-a-heart-attack/
